Sports Cougars hit hazard in Austin Cougar Sports Services It began the day close to the top half, but by the end of the final round of competition at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate tournament in Austin on Tuesday, the UH golf team had fallen to rock bottom.

Pin Lim/The Daily Cougar The Cougars finished in last place at the event with a 30-over-par 894, 52 strokes behind tournament champion Oklahoma State. The loss follows a 16-out-of-17 finish at the Cleveland Golf Classic in Los Angeles on March 4. The Cougars ended the first round tied for 6th place with a 1-over-par 289, but shot a 15-over-par 303 in the afternoon to fall back to No. 10 on Monday. The Cougars fell out of contention with a 14-over-par 302 in the third round. UH was led by freshman Kevin Newmanis 5-over-par 221 (tied for 46th place). Senior John Wine finished tied for 49th with a 6-over-par 222; senior Brett Callas finished tied for 63rd place at 10-over-par 226; and freshmen Zach Mowbray and Denton Walker finished tied for 75th at 13-over-par 229. Mowbray went into the Morris Williams as Houstonis leading scorer with an average of 73.2 per 18 holes.
