Sports Coogs need an ace in the hole Cougar Sports Services If the Cougar golf team has any hope of finishing in the top half at the U.S. Collegiate Championship, it had better make some birdies -- and aces.
Senior John Wine ended the second round of competition at the U.S. Collegiate Championships tied for 44th place. With just one round left to play today, the Cougars are in danger of finishing in last place. Pin Lim/The Daily Cougar The Cougars finished the second day of competition in Tucson, Ariz., in a tie for last place with Alabama at 33-over-par 609. Theyire 37 strokes behind tournament leader Arizona. The Wildcats shot a blistering 10-under-par 278 Monday to take command of first place with a 4-under-par 572. New Mexico is second at 4-over-par 580. Texas and Texas Christian are tied for third at 9-over-par 585. Seniors Brett Callas, Simon Robinson and John Wine are tied for 44th place at 8-over-par 152. Senior Kevin Newman is tied for 54th place at 10-over-par 154 while freshman Zach Mowbray is tied for 73rd with a 17-over-par 161. Only the top four scores count toward team scoring. Arizonais Ricky Barnes shot a 5-under-par 67 to tie with TCUis David Schultz for first place at 6-over-par 138. First-round leader Jason Hartwick from Texas fell into a tie for 13th place.
