Boomkat's debut filled with flavor

By Amber Lanphier

Imagine being cast to play Eminemis deceitful girlfriend in 8 Mile and not meeting him until itis time for your first scene. It would be nerve wracking to say the least, but thatis exactly what happened to actress Taryn Manning.

Boomkat, comprised of sister and brother duo Taryn Manning and her brother Kellin Manning, mix trip-hop beats with stunning vocals on its new album Boomkatalog One.

Soon after filming the movie, Manning and the rap mogul became close pals. However, Manning neglected to tell him that her other profession was as an amazing vocalist in a trip-hop duo called Boomkat.

When the rapper found out, he asked for a copy of her five-track demo and fell in love with the song called "Wastini My Time." The song ended up on the mega-selling 8 Mile Soundtrack with the likes of Jay-Z, 50 Cent and Eminem himself.

The song is beautiful. Itis about a girl in a relationship whois at her witis end because sheis not being treated right. The song sends a chilling warning: What comes around goes around. The single is in heavy rotation on the radio and Boomkatis major label debut titled Boomkatalog One is set to drop early next week.

Boomkat is comprised of Taryn Manning and her brother, Kellin Manning, and the album is crafty and full of flavor.

The tracks feature Tarynis distinctive raspy voice mixed with thumping bass lines and record samples. "Wastini My Time," the first single, is a good choice, but the album definitely has other gems with the potential to make it to the top of the charts.

"The Wreckoning" really displays the dynamic voice and lyrical power the Manning duo possesses. In the song, Taryn flows about a loser guy who now can only make her laugh.

"Now Understand This" and "Know Me" are great tracks that embody the sultry catchiness of the whole album.

"Move On" is a whimsical track that starts off with "I mean much more to me / than anyone I ever knew" and goes on to become a trippy masterpiece. The album stands out from other bands in the mainstream music scene, and itis definitely worth picking up.
