Will to Live releases debut CD

By Jason Gagnon
The Daily Cougar

Houston hardcore heavyweight Will to Live is releasing its long-awaited debut album Reflections on Human Character on Friday.

If the name doesnit ring a bell, you may remember seeing the band with Hatebreed the last couple of times it was in town. In fact, singer Jamey Jasta personally requested the band play with them. With that type of support, you can believe the music has to be good.

The band began its career under the name of Scarred for Life, igniting the stagnant local hardcore scene.

On the state of the scene now, singer Robert Galdamez said, "This is the best I can remember it being and it's only gonna get better."

After going through several member changes and being forced to drop its original name, the group pressed on and became one of the most talked-about bands in Texas hardcore.

Many have wondered why it has taken the band almost five years to release a full-length album, and the answer is simple: Will to Live doesnit believe in doing things halfway. That attitude certainly comes through when you listen to Reflections.

From start to finish, the album assaults the listener with its musical brutality but strikes a nice balance with its poignant and introspective lyrics.

The album is described on the bandis Web site, www.willtolive.net, as "Judge hanging out with Slayer and (Dirty Rotten Imbeciles), beating down the numerous traitors who have turned their backs on hardcore, metal and punk rock."

The band will celebrate its CD release Friday at Fitzgeraldis.

Will to Liveis shows are fun and intense with plenty of enthusiastic behavior from all in attendance.

Local favorites Eyeagainst and Pride Kills which is gaining nationwide attention after a successful tour will add to the festivities, as will Die Young, Blood Ties and Black Child Avatar. This is something you definitely donit want to miss.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $8. The show is open to all ages. Protective gear is optional.
