Two crimes prompt UHPD alert

Cougar News Staff

In response to incidents of aggravated robbery and sexual assault that took place in or near Agnes Arnold Hall last week, the UH police department posted campus security alerts and is using the incidents to remind students to use the free campus escort service.

A security alert posted Tuesday came in response to a report of sexual assault March 27.

The UHPD alert reported that a female student was approached in the lobby of the Agnes Arnold auditoriums by an unknown male who asked to see her class notes. The two then entered Agnes Arnold Auditorium 2, where, the UHPD report stated, the suspect took advantage of her sexually. After the assault, the suspect fled the area, though the victim was not able to see in which direction.

The UHPD report describes the suspect as being a white male, clean-shaven, 6 feet tall and in his late teens or early 20s. He is described as muscular but "pudgy," wearing a T-shirt, blue shorts and flip-flops.

An alert posted Monday refers to a March 28 crime, described as a robbery in the UHPD brief. A female student was approached by a slim Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, who reportedly threatened her verbally as he took away her backpack and stole money from her wallet. The student was walking in the lobby of the Agnes Arnold auditoriums when she was approached.

Further suspect descriptions reported the male to be wearing a gray hooded shirt and blue jeans; he was possibly in his early 20s.

Both incidents took place around 8 p.m. and no witnesses have come forward. These reports come nearly a month after four incidents of aggravated robbery put UH on edge in February. At that time, UHPD also urged students to turn to its escort service to ensure their safety.

UHPD is asking anyone with information to call 713-743-3333 or 911.

Students can use the escort service, provided at no charge, by calling UHPD at 713-743-0600. The service is provided 24 hours a day to all areas of campus.
