News Bank exec to discuss poverty Cougar News Services An international banking executive and expert will use his experience to discuss the effects of ever-uncertain world markets on developing countriesi economic growth in a lecture Thursday at UH. John Page, who is the World Bankis director of poverty reduction, comes to the UH C.T. Bauer College of Business to discuss efforts being made to further develop low-end economies. Drawing from discussions at United Nations and World Trade Organization conferences, Page will address the levels of success achieved in developing countries and how global trade will affect the poorest countries in the world. Page, whose visit is co-sponsored by the Houston World Affairs Council and the UH International MBA Society, has been with the World Bank since 1980. He directs the bankis mission to spearhead economic development through poverty reduction strategies in more than 70 countries. He is not unknown in the lecture and academic circuits, as he has published several books and articles on trade policy, industrial economics and technological progress on top of studies of the low-income economies he is trying to mend.
