SGA to "Walk in the Dark" tonight

Cougar News Staff

The Student Government Association will team up with the UH Police Department in inviting all students, faculty and staff to join their "Walk in the Dark" campus security task force tonight.

The "Walk in the Dark" is set for 9:30 p.m. Students, faculty and staff interested in participating are asked to gather in front of the University Center before that time.

Originally announced by SGA Vice President Jon Quintanilla at the senateis March 12 meeting, the "Walk in the Dark" is planned to become an annual campus event. The idea is to get students involved in pointing out possible security problems on campus, specifically by finding areas that are poorly lit.

The walk was to take place before the SGA meeting April 2, but leaders realized it was much too early and too bright outside, so the event was postponed to today.

The first meeting of the senateis 40th administration will take place before the walk at 7:30 p.m. Bills not worked out by the 39th administration, which officially ended its business last week, could be proposed at this meeting. Like all SGA meetings, members of the general student body are welcome to attend.

The task force, though not an official body, is an extension of the senateis continued efforts to battle on-campus crime. SGA President Dawona Miller, when running for office last year, emphasized the need for improving campus lighting and security.
