News Scholar to present at prose event Cougar News Staff Anthony James West, a Shakespearean scholar, will speak at UHis Poetry and Prose spring event tonight. Westis lecture will begin at 6 p.m. in the Lyndall Finley Wortham Theatre on campus. The lecture is part of the final meeting of the semester for Poetry and Prose, a monthly reading series sponsored by the UH Libraries and the UH Creative Writing Program. The event is free and open to the public. West has extensively studied the early publishing of Shakespeareis works. He recently published The Shakespeare First Folio: The History of the Book. West will be speaking about the first folio, which was the first collection of Shakespeareis works to be published. The folio was published in 1623, seven years after Shakespeareis death in 1616. Westis book is the first volume of a planned four-volume series about these early publications of Shakespeareis work. West studied at Harvard as an undergraduate before attending the Harvard Business School. He recently completed his doctoral work in English literature at the University College London. He lives near Kent, England. The lecture is part of a tour of the state of Texas for West, who will also lecture this week at the University of Texas and Texas A&M University. The last Poetry & Prose session, held March 20, featured an open
mike session and UH creative writing instructor Steven Liparulo.
