Opinion American imperialism strikes Samira Zaidi
Welcome to Iraqland. Tickets cost only $3 billion a pop buy two tickets and bring a guest country for free. The newest attraction is the Basra Bomb Drop, the largest ride in the Middle East. There are also childrenis games, like Tic-Attack-an-Arab, Pin the Mustache on the Dictator and Ring Around Baghdad. The creators of the amusement park, Bush and Blair Inc., have a great feeling about this new park. Itis guaranteed to bring millions of corpses. So gather whatis left of your families to bask in the cradle of civilization, and donit forget your gas masks. The current war in Iraq has become a spectacle of irrational human behavior, illogical theories and false justifications. Just for saying you donit like the war, you are anti-American and sympathetic to an evil dictator. Not surprisingly, people who formerly served in the military participate in most of Americais anti-war protests. The War on Terror seemed justified, though we are still playing hide-and-seek with Osama bin Laden and the number of Afghanis who have been killed is higher than the number of Americans who died on 9/11. According to a New York Times/CBS News survey reported February that 42 percent of Americans believed Saddam Hussein is directly responsible for the 9/11 attacks. Now thereis an epidemic of mad-cowboy disease, and Bush continues to use God as the official saint of the United States. God's blessings are invoked every time a bomb is dropped or some other weapon is used. This God that Bush uses is quite popular lots of people claim him as theirs but because Bush is fighting "evil," God is on his side. Bushis words since 9/11 have been an attempt to nurture religious fanaticism "good versus evil," "We have banded together as one people under Jesus Christ …" and so forth. Hmmm … This sounds a lot like what bin Laden used to do except he used Islam as the justification for his actions and quoted the Quran. The U.S. media are doing a great job of portraying a desperate, almost uncivilized population practically falling at the feet of coalition troops, the same people who flew air strikes almost daily. Now they all join hands and pull down a statue of Saddam, even though they are the ones who put it up. Those Iraqis hold a special place not only in Dubyais four-chambered fleshy organ, but also in the hearts of all corporations. Can we say "black gold"? So we look forward to another colony of the great United States Iraqland where American flags are hoisted up proudly and then pulled down when British forces say, "You are here to liberate, not occupy." Liberation never smelled so sweet or so fishy. Zaidi, a senior communication major, can be reached at greeneggs34@hotmail.com.
