Arts & Entertainment Industry hosts hip-hop birthday bash By Gigi Khadivian
What do six local folks DJs, MCs and a graffiti artist have in common? The answer is their birthdays. Birthday boys Comp1, NME, Witnes, Cipher, BBC and Bristle are throwing down for their collective April birthdays. The party is at Industry Café, 933 St. Emmanuel St. at Rusk Street, on the east side of Minute Maid Park. DJ Baby Roo, Mr. Ish, Ceep Plus, Samplistic, Gonzo 247, Cipher and more will be laying down the vinyl for your listening pleasure. With $2 domestic drinks, no cover and at least seven well-established DJs, you shouldnit miss this party. Separately and collectively, these hip-hop heads have been contributing to the local scene with their own distinct talents, producing all genres of art. The birthday boys have all been breaking new music, art and lyrics in Houston 10 years. Sponsored by Industry Sound, Industry Café has been transformed from its previous spot, Club Space, into a state-of-the-art lounge and Internet cafe. Internet cafes have been sprouting up all over the United States in the past five years, but Houston has yet to catch on to this trend. Internet access at is only $3 per hour, with 22 computers available. Industry Café features a full bar and lounge, accenting the casual and diverse atmosphere with couches. The kitchen is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Finger foods are available until late in the evening. Hoping to bring a blend of New York and Los Angeles' distinct club vibes to our city, owner Rose Tran has invested in transforming Houston's club scene. Specifically focusing on the segregated and monochromatic tendencies of Houston clubs, Industry Café set out to be diverse, not only in its clientele but also in its music. To add to the fun, the bar also has a game room. Industry Café will definitely be the place to be Saturday night. . Send comments to dcshobiz@mail.uh.edu |
