Great shows over the holiday break

If you are stuck on Easter Sunday listening to your brother fight with your cousins about the Easter egg hunt while granny and your mom argue on how to make part of Easter dinner simply follow the Easter Bunny and hop on over to Washington Avenue to hear great music and chill out.

48 bands will play the 420 Festival from 3 p.m. to 12 a.m. for only $8.

Taking over Washington Avenue venues such as Fat Catis, Silkyis and Walteris, the bands will also play on a 420 stage and a Fat Catis outside stage. 

Bands such as Jimmyis Pawn Shop, Slop Jar Jr., Four, Duro, Arizenme, South, Laden and numerous others will jam throughout the afternoon and into the night. All proceeds go to NORML.

Bringing in the holiday weekend on Friday night is Dale Watson along with Flamin Hellcats upstairs at Fitzgeraldis. Los Skarnales will play downstairs. 

Bright Eyes, Arab Strap and Her Space Holiday will play at the Engine Room on Friday.

Also on Friday if youire in the mood for some garage rock go check out the super-cute Houston band The Groceries with Paper Chase. Tickets are $5 for over 21 and $8 for under.

Art-pop rock band Blue October will have their CD release in their hometown Saturday night at Fitzgeraldis.

For a band that has already done the typical run of the mill major label fiasco and is now opting for Brando Records to release their latest album, <I>History For Sale<P>, these guys are unstoppable. Blue October fans are hard-core so make it out to this show early. It is sure to sell out.

Running in competition on Saturday night with the well-known Blue October is Taking Back Sunday and From Autumn to Ashes at Numberis.

My Morning Jack and Space Truck will play at the Engine Room. If you are with your family for the weekend in Lake Jackson, be sure to make your way over to Jasmine Hall to hear the heavy riffs and distorted sounds of The Tie That Binds, Seventh Day Sky and Distorted Fate.

Punk your thing? After you eat all the pastel-colored eggs and sugary little purple peeps you can stand, check out The Ataris, The Juliana Theory, Further Seems Forever and Damone at Numberis on Sunday night.
