Cougars hit the high five

Cougar Sports Staff

Itis official. The Cougars are on a roll.

The Southwest Texas State Bobcats may not be on par with the level of competition at which the Cougars have been playing so far, but a 7-3 win Tuesday night in San Marcos gave UH (23-18) its fifth consecutive win. While solid pitching is a constant for head coach Rayner Nobleis squad, the batting lineup hasnit been doing too shabby lately.

Sophomore pitcher Garrett Mock limited the Southwest Texas State Bobcats to three hits in 5.2 innings as the Cougars earned a 7-3 win in San Marcos. UH notched its fifth consecutive game to improve to 23-18.

Junior outfielder Gabe Lucas became just the 17th player in UH history to record five hits in a game and the first since the 1999 season. The Cougars out-hit the Bobcats 13-5. Juniors Michael Bourn, Cole Bruce and Hyung Cho combined for six hits and six RBIs. Along with Lucas, the foursome scored all seven of the Cougarsi runs.

In his first mid-week start of the season, sophomore pitcher Garrett Mock (3-3) held SWT to three hits and struck out five batters in 5.2 innings of work. The Bobcats did all of their damage in the early innings and tied the game at 3-3 in the third inning, but couldnit crack UHis pitching staff the rest of the way.

Sophomore relief pitcher Ryan Wagner picked up his ninth save of the season after striking out six batters in two innings. Heis within one save of tying former Cougar Jesse Crainis single-season record (10).

The Cougars next travel to Tampa, Fla., to face South Florida in a three-game series beginning at 6 p.m. Friday. The game can be heard on the radio at KAXF-FM 88.3.
