Sports Cougar golf team a stroke away from first place Cougar Sports Staff It took a while, but the Cougar golf team is finally surging. And it couldnit have come at a better time. UH is just one stroke off the lead at the Conference USA Championships in Tampa, Fla. The Cougars trail tournament leader Texas Christianis 9-over-par 577 and lead Alabama-Birmingham by two strokes. Senior John Wine led the Cougars on the second day of competition with a 2-under-par 69 while senior Brett Callas continues to lead UH in individual scoring with a 2-under-par 140. Callas shot up to third place behind Charlotteis Russell Killough and TCUis Adam Meyer. Other Cougar golfers competing were sophomore Daniel Angenscheidt, tied at No. 37 with an 8-over par 150; freshman Zach Mowbray, tied for No. 44 with a 10-over-par 152; and Denton Walker, tied for 46th with a 11-over-par 153. Tee time for the final round at the par-71, 7,083-yard course is set
for 7 a.m. today.
