Sports San Diego picks Milligan Cougar Sports Staff He was UHis best shot at landing a player in the NFL. It just took a little longer than expected. The San Diego Chargers selected former Cougar Hanik Milligan with the 15th pick of the sixth round. He was the No. 188 player selected overall.
Milligan led the Cougars and was among the nationis leaders with 145 tackles last year. He set the tone for the 2002 season by causing a fumble on the UH side of the field during the Cougarsi 24-10 win over Rice. He was named to the All-Conference USA first team. Milligan recorded 174 tackles (No. 2 all-time on the UH list) in 2001. He came into his own during the 2000 season. He had 89 tackles, but he intercepted five passes for 77 yards. He possessed amazing strength and could knock the ball out of a receiveris hands with one of his vicious hits. In other draft news, the Houston Texans selected Miami wide receiver Andre Johnson as the No. 3 pick. While Michigan Stateis Charles Rogers received all the publicity, Johnson was regarded as the top prospect by The NFL Draft Report. The 6-2, 230-pounder caught 52 passes for 1,092 yards and nine touchdowns. They selected Michigan tight end Bennie Joppru with the No. 41 pick, Cincinnati outside linebacker Antwan Peek No. 67 and Northwestern Missouri offensive tackle Seth Ward No. 75. The Texans also selected two quarterbacks: Louisvilleis Dave Ragone (No. 88) and Michiganis Drew Henson (No. 192).
