Forum to discuss Spring '04 tuition rate

The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and the Student Government Association will host a campus forum today to discuss Spring 2004's designated tuition.

Students are encouraged to attend the campus forum to discuss tuition deregulation at 12:15 p.m. today in the Bluebonnet Room of the University Center.

House Bill 3015, signed into law by Gov. Rick Perry in June, will allow all Texas public colleges and institutions of higher learning to set their own tuition rates as they see fit.

"The fee is not increasing for the fall semester. For an undergrad full-time student taking 12 hours, the tuition is $1,455, which does not include books, and the fee for non-residents or international students is $4,071," said Daphne Dowdy, assistant director of the office of external communications. "For the Spring 2004 semester, no decision has been made and nothing is finalized, but the Board is going to consider that issue at their August meeting."

Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Edward P. Sheridan, and Associate Vice President for Finance Jim McShan will be available to answer the UH community's questions at the forum.
