Ex-Coogs sign with pros Cougar Sports Services After being in charge of the Cougar defense for much of the past two seasons, departed safety Hanik Milligan has a new home -- fittingly enough with the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers signed Milligan to a four-year contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. San Diego selected Milligan in the sixth round of this year's NFL draft (188th overall). Milligan racked up 408 tackles and seven interceptions during his career for the Cougars. He left school as the third all-time leading tackler. He also ranked fifth in solo tackles and tenth in passes defended.
Former UH safety Hanik Milligan is looking ahead to a lengthy career with the San Diego Chargers. He signed a four-year deal with the team. Mauro Alvarez/The Daily Cougar Milligan will have to fight through a crowded secondary; the Chargers selected three other defensive backs in the 2003 draft. The Chargers begin training camp for rookies and selected veterans today. In other Cougar pro signing news, former ace pitcher Brad Sullivan accepted a $1.36 million signing bonus from the Oakland Athletics. Sullivan was selected in the first round (25th overall). Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Former centerfielder Michael Bourn signed with the Philadelphia Phillies.
He will report to Class-A affiliate Batavia Muckdogs. Bourn was Philadelphia's
second overall pick (4th round, 115th overall). Terms
of the contract were not released.
