Law prof receives national honors Cougar News Services Michael A. Olivas, the William B. Bates Distinguished Chair in Law, can now add another accolade to his trophy case. Olivas, who also serves as director of the Institute for Higher Education Law and Governance as well as associate dean for student life at the UH Law Center, has been named a Fellow of the National Association of College and University Attorneys. The honor was bestowed at the organization's 43rd annual conference in Minneapolis last week. The fellowship award was created to recognize those who have been outstanding in the practice of law on behalf of higher education clients through quality of scholarship, breadth of service or other means. Olivas has been widely published in higher education journals and law reviews and has participated on the editorial board of The Journal of College and University Law for seven years. Olivas received his bachelor's degree from the Pontifical College Josephinum,
his master's and doctorate from Ohio State University and his juris doctorate
from Georgetown University Law Center.
