Regents meeting to approve finalist Cougar News Staff The Board of Regents will seek the official appointment of Jay Gogue as chancellor and president of UH at a specially called meeting Tuesday. Gogue, whose nomination was made official at the last Board of Regents meeting July 1, was the sole finalist of the search committee that scoured the country for a successor to President Arthur K. Smith. Smith announced his retirement in February and officially steps down Sept. 2. Then, if appointed by the Board, Gogue will take office. The meeting will also seek approval of other measures, including establishing two new degree programs, one for UH-Downtown and another for UH-Clear Lake. The board will also vote to officially name the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts in recognition of the Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation contribution of $20 million. Out of the donation, $4 million will be used to renovate the School of Theatre building and $16 million will be used to establish an endowment for the arts. The Administration and Finance Committee will seek approval of a Campus
Master Plan for UH-Victoria. The plans are geared toward creating a more
student-friendly campus.
