Gogue gets Regents'
nod for UH presidency
At its specially called meeting Tuesday, the Board of
Regents approved the appointment of Jay Gogue to succeed Arthur K. Smith
as UH system chancellor and university president, officially sealing the
deal and ending a national search that cost less than $140,000 according
to search committee expense reports.
UH Ph. D. student studies the
red planet
Some students may have had adolescent dreams of becoming
an astronaut or taking trips to outer space, but for one UH doctoral student,
the dream may just come true.

the Mic' contest

-- these names don't exactly conjure up images of modern day music, but
who says the next singing sensation has to be of the contemporary pop American
Idol variety? Maybe it's time for America to bring back the true smooth
voices of lounge and jazz. Senior broadcast journalism major Jay Hickman
is trying to do just this by putting a little swing into KPRC-TV's Gimme
the Mic Houston contest.
UH mourns loss of engineer professor
Michael W. O'Neill, UH professor of civil engineering,
died of a heart attack in his home Saturday. He was 63 years old. |
