Just in time for finals, UC activities kill stress

By Savoyia Henderson

A little bit of fun at the University Center on Wednesday helped stressed-out students escape the pressures of the last week of classes and impending finals.

The Student Program Board teamed up with the Health Center and Wellness Center to provide four hours of stress-relieving activities in the UC Arbor.

Students could get some massage therapy, create a wax hand, have their caricatures drawn, make their own Christmas cards and play with stress balls and a giant Velcro wall, as well as munch on free popcorn and cotton candy.

Despite the inclement weather, lines went across the UC with students, faculty and staff waiting to partake in the activities. But the temperature and rain did deter some from enjoying themselves.

'Itis too cold,” said Tiffany Edwards, a senior finance major at the SPB vice president. 'I donit want a wax hand anymore.”

However, others braved the weather and lines to benefit from the activities. The massage therapist spent five minutes per customer ridding them of kinks or knots. The Wellness Center guided students in making their own stress balls out of a balloon and sand. The Health Center also provided information on other methods of relieving stress.

The caricature artists drew a mixed reaction from students. 'Itis pretty, but it doesnit look like me,” sophomore university studies student Karen Rogers said of her drawing.

The more brave among the crowd took a shot at the giant Velcro wall.

'It was difficult to get a good jump,” sophomore communication major Charlene Harper said.

Despite the difficulties, she and several others tried it out, entertaining everyone else with their efforts.
