Jones gets MVP,UH falls to UW Cougar Sports Services Not even the player destined to become tournament Most Valuable Player could will the Lady Cougars to a win at the GlaxoSmithKline Invitational on Saturday. UH dropped the championship game to Washington, 76-65 to fall to 5-3 on the season.
The Lady Cougars lost to Washington in the championship game of the North Carolina State Invitational, but junior guard Chandi Jones wound up with the tournamentis Most Valuable Player award. Junior guard Chandi Jones scored 29 points and earned tournament MVP honors. Sophomore guard Shondra Bush, also named to the all-tournament team, had 18 points, five rebounds and two steals. Both players played all 40 minutes. But the Lady Cougars wouldnit have made it to the championship game if they hadnit pulled off a 71-60 upset of Florida in the opening game. Jones led UH with 31 points; Bush added 13 points, 10 rebounds and six steals; and sophomore forward/center KiKi Harris had 11 points and four blocked shots. Head coach Joe Curl recorded his 200th career win. UH will be off until Dec. 20, when they will host Georgia at 7 p.m. at Hofheinz Pavilion. Send comments to dcsports@mail.uh.edu |
