New world, new steps, new year: Days before the area would become
inundated with a fresh load of spring semester students, Donna Smith enjoys
a quiet afternoon stroll with her adopted son, Nicholas, by the fountains
behind the E. Cullen administration building on Thursday. Nicholas, who
is from Rostov-on-Dom, Russia, was celebrating his first birthday. Smith
is an employee of the college of education and helps teachers integrate
technology into the classroom. The blue-sky weather the two took advantage
of could return by Tuesday, despite the resident rain clouds Sunday.
