Sports Pakhalina wins her 5th C-USA DOW this season Cougar Sports Services Conference USA may as well keep a ready supply of Diver of the Week awards on hand for Yulia Pakhalina. The senior won her fifth C-USA DOW award of the season and 10th of her career. It is the third consecutive week she has won and the sixth consecutive week that a UH diver has won the award. Freshman Azul Almazan won one award this season.
Including freshman swimmer Stacey Williamsi two Swimmer of the Week awards, it is the eighth time a member of the swimming and diving team has won either a DOW or SOW award. Pakhalina finished in first place against Southern Methodist at the one- and three-meter diving events and broke the 300-point barrier in both. She scored 378.95 on the one-meter and 366.65 on the three-meter. Her one-meter score is a new season-best for UH. She has won the three-meter diving event 28 consecutive times and has won 56 of the 58 collegiate events in which she has competed. The Cougars will conclude the regular season against some familiar foes in two NCAA dual meets. The swimming and diving team will travel crosstown to face Rice at 7 p.m. Friday and Texas A&M at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in College Station. Send comments to dcsports@mail.uh.edu |
