Sports Foley wins C-USA's Co-TPOW Cougar Sports Services The Cougar tennis team thoroughly smashed Texas Pan-American on Saturday.
UH only lost 11 total games in winning all nine matches against the Lady
Broncs. While that performance got the Cougars off the ground in the spring
season, one playeris game stood out particularly well.
Freshman tennis player Miranda Foley earned the Conference USA Tennis Player of the Week award after beating her Texas Pan-American opponent in straight sets. Foley is the Cougarsi new No. 1 player. Lorrie Novosad/The Daily Cougar
In her first time out, freshman Miranda Foley beat UTPAis Eizabet Mateos, 6-1, 6-3. She teamed up with senior Analia Longoni to beat Mateos and Ana Pena, 8-0, as the Cougarsi No. 1 doubles team. In helping the Cougars get off to a good start, the freshman was honored with a Conference USA Womenis Tennis Co-Player of the Week. Foley was starting at the No. 1 spot for the first time this season. She shares the award with Louisville sophomore Kelly Taylor. Taylor, the No. 1 player for the Cardinals, beat Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolisi Mallory Stemle, 6-3, 6-1 in singles competition on Saturday. She teamed up with Marie Louise Frolich-Hansen to beat IUPUIis Brookley Crews and Natalie Bednar. The Cougars go on the road Saturday to face Texas Christian. Send comments to dcsports@mail.uh.edu |
