Letters to the Editor

Try a little consideration

To the editor:

Recently UH opened its new Campus Recreation and Wellness Center. What a nice facility loaded with equipment and large locker rooms, plus great staff and service!

I advise all UH students to use it, since we are all already paying $75 per semester to do so. Also, an additional small $16 fee per semester provides you with a locker and towel service.

Although I am very pleased with the facilities themselves, I have some concerns. Yesterday, when I asked for a shower towel Iid paid to use, I was told that they were out. I had to wait for some towels to be cleaned.

When I asked the person behind the counter why, she told me that some people must be keeping towels in their lockers, or taking them home.

Well, when I finally hit the showers, I noticed a lot of trash lying around -- paper towels, soap boxes and so on. The Recreation Center has been open for just a week so far and already people are messing up the locker room.

I am writing to ask the people who use the facilities to please return their towels and to have some respect for the fitness center we all use. I know there would be some very angry students if we were to lose our fitness center privileges because of a few people.

Finally, in the weight room, you people who pick up the heaviest dumbbells and then throw them on the ground so we can see how strong you are: Please stop.

It makes the dumbbells weak and makes you look weak. If you canit handle the weight, find a spotter. We already paid for weight equipment once; Iid hate to have to do so again.
