Sports Cougars swing into action, finish No. 15 Cougar Sports Services The Cougar golf team began the spring portion of its 2002-03 season
by finishing in 15th place at the Arizona Intercollegiate tournament in
Tucson, Ariz., on Tuesday.
Senior Simon Robinson finished with a 7-over-par 220 at the Arizona Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The Cougar golf team ended the competition in 15th place. Pin Lim/The Daily Cougar UH shot a combined 3-under-par 281 in the final round, with senior Simon Robinson, senior Brett Callas and freshman Kevin Newman, each shooting a 1-under-par 70 to lead the charge. The Cougars shot a combined 870 in the tournament to finish 37 strokes behind tournament winner and host-school Arizona. California-Los Angeles, Pepperdine, Southern California and Wake Forest were Nos. 2-5. Freshman Zach Mowbray led UH with an even-par 213 (including an even-par 71 on the last day) to tie for No. 26. Texas-El Pasois Chris Baryla shot a 10-under-par 203 to win the individual championship. Robinson shot a 70 in the final round to finish at 7-over-par 220; Callas finished at 8-over-par 221; senior John Wine at 10-over-par 223 and Newman at 228. The Cougars are off until Wednesday, when they travel to Kona, Hawaii, to compete in the Waikoloa Intercollegiate tournament. Send comments to dcsports@mail.uh.edu |
