Take a fun-filled trip to the Camp Kill Yourself

By Dixie Ann Dalton
The Daily Cougar

If youive seen Jackass on MTV or the CKY skate videos, then youire probably going to want to attend this upcoming well-awaited-show at the Engine Room on Feb. 13. Thatis right, the band Camp Kill Yourself (better known as CKY) will perform, and with two CDs now under their belt, CKY is in a category all its own.

CKYis newest release on Island Records, Infiltrate-Destroy-Rebuild features contributions by Deron Miller (songwriter, lead guitar, and vocals), Chad Ginsburg (rythym

guitar, Producer, mixer), Jess Margera (drums), and Vern Zaborowski (bass).

This new CD was preceded by CKY-Volume 1, which was the bandis debut. CKY recently toured with Guns and Roses, and when Chad Ginsburg was asked how it was to open up for G&R, he said, "It was interesting. It started with a riot and it ended with a riot."

CKY also toured with Warped Tour in 1999 and 2001. Their current tour started Feb. 4 in Anaheim, California. It will last 12 weeks, and during those twelve weeks, CKY will play over 60 shows.

"Categorizing music is easy when youire watching TV. You can only categorize a sellout," said Ginsburg about how he classifies CKYis music. When asked how he describes their sound he said, "CKY! Thereis really no other explanation!i

When asking Ginsberg what bands CKY is currently listening to, he responded, "Iim into The Murder Junkies. Deron is always listening to Malevolent Creation and Jess listens to Clutch." CKY feels that the world needs their help, therefore they formed the CKY Alliance, a group composed of CKY and their fans, that will confront the music industry leaders and call for reform.

"We and the CKY Alliance have deemed the previous generation Generation Overdone. CKY and their fans are revolutionaries of the new Generation of Change," Ginsberg said in an Island Records press release.

Interested peeps who want to join the CKY Alliance or just learn more in depth about their cause should check them out at CKYmusic.com. Unlike some bands CKY doesnit mind people downloading their music to listen to their sound.

"If youive got a computer use it! Downloading is bad for record labels, but great for exposure and tour turn-outs. However, if youire a fan of the band or the music, buy it," Ginsberg said.

It has been speculated that CKY is heavily promoted by MTVis Jackass because drummer Jess Margerais brother Bam Margera is a part of the troop.

"We just have songs on ackass just like other bands. Weire a rock band, and we donit really have anything to do with super human events," Ginsberg said. "Weire always surpassing our goals. We just want to continue to infiltrate the music industry."

When questioned where he would see himself in five years Ginsberg replied, "Dead!"

Overall, Ginsberg has a regular rock star attitude, and looks forward to playing in Houston "just like he looks forward to playing in every other city."

Whether or not you buy into his attitude, you shouldnit dismiss Camp Kill Yourself as just another rock band.

"If you donit want to pay attention, youire not into rock n roll. Just come to the show,"Ginsberg said.
