Sports Foster wins, Coogs qualify for NCAAs Cougar Sports Services The Houston Indoor Invitational wasnit a scored event, but some of the Cougars used the meet to qualify for the NCAA championships. Senior sprinter Robert Foster, sophomore hurdler Milton Manson, senior runner Courtnie Ratliff and the womenis 4-by-400 relay team qualified. Foster won the 60-meter dash in 6.78 seconds, but it was his time in the 200-meter dash (21.49 seconds) that earned him a place in the NCAAs. Manson placed second in the 60-meter hurdles event, but his time of 7.93 seconds was the best for the Cougars all season. Ratliff placed second in the womenis 400-meter dash in 54.64 seconds while the relay team edged out Rice to finish the 4-by-400 in three minutes, 40.19 seconds to the Owlsi 3.43.00. The team set a new meet record. Other schools competing Saturday were: Texas A&M, Texas (menis team only), Rice (womenis team only), Southwest Texas, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Lamar, Texas-San Antonio, Texas-Pan American, Southern Miss, Arkansas, Grambling, Cal State-Los Angeles, Northwestern State, Jackson State, Louisiana-Monroe, Southeastern Louisiana and New Orleans. Freshman sprinter Ebonie Floyd finished her first 200-meter dash of the season in second place with a time of 24.62 seconds. The Cougars will next host the UH All-Comers meet on Saturday at the Yeoman Field House. UH will also be home to the Conference USA Indoor Championships on Feb. 28.
