Letters to the Editor Fair and balanced?

To the editor:

Fair and balanced? How is it fair and balanced that the entire Daily Cougar is filled with nothing but anti-war, liberal rhetoric. Never do I see any thought-provoking articles either way on the possible military action against Iraq.
The only thing this editorial staff is concerned with is making their own anti-Bush, nonpartisan views evident for the entire UH body. Well, your views are obvious. Now shut up! Or at least print something with some objectivity or substance.

Mark Ridgley
graduate student, business administration

To the editor:

I was delighted to read Tuesdayis staff editorial, "Fair and balanced?"
At a time when our nation is in the greatest need of people voicing their opinions, there seems to be a great deal of discrepancy about exactly who is allowed to make their voice heard. I am glad this issue was brought to light because people have pointed out repeatedly in The Daily Cougar that as citizens we need to be "informed."
It is truly sad that the majority of the population is being "informed" by the likes of Bill OiReilly and Sean Hannity, who have about as much sense as my pinky toe. There are other sources of news besides FoxNews and CNN and people would be well advised to utilize them. Yahoo News, for example, provides links to a wide variety of newspapers and magazines, which provide a much more well-rounded picture.
I think we all would be much better off if more people were able to avoid the propaganda fed to them by these networks and see what is really going on in the world.

To the editor:

I saw that same interview with Jeremy Glick and I thought Bill OiReilly was totally in the right to kick that idiot off his show.
Glick was voicing his opinion in the same way that bin Laden voices his opinion when he calls for the destruction of America, yet I donit see you rushing to bin Ladenis defense. Glick was simply spouting empty-headed anti-Americanism, and blaming the victims of the 9/11 attacks for their own deaths.
If it were up to people like Glick, the United States would never have gone into Afghanistan, the Taliban would still be in power and al-Qaida would be as strong as ever.
And as for the "wetback" comment, OiReilly was referring to "coyotes," the sub-human scum who traffic in human cargo and exploit Mexican emigrants, not Hispanics.

Cougar Reds

To the editor:

It seems fitting that The Daily Cougar recently added the red accent to its front page; leafing through it these days feels more like holding The Socialist or The Morning Star in your hands, so the crimson is a nice touch.
The leftist venom within its pages makes it more fitting as litter box filler than a respected school newspaper of one of this great nationis largest universities. Between bashing our president, a man who has brought integrity back to the White House after eight years of shame and ridicule, and demonizing our undeterred efforts to stop Saddam Hussein from continuing his efforts to amass weapons of horrific capabilities, there seems to be little space left for legitimate stories.
I wonder if Tom Ridge realizes that the greatest threat to the United States is not al-Qaida or Iraq or North Korea, but the leftist anti-American sentiment festering within our own borders.

sophomore, business
