Sports Ani Longoni wins Tennis POW for play vs. La. Tech Cougar Sports Services Hats off to senior tennis player Analia Longoni. The 5-2 transfer from Stetson University won the Conference USA tennis player of the week for the period ending Feb. 10. This is Longoniis first conference player of the week honor.
Lorrie Novosad/The Daily Cougar The senior from Caracas, Venezuela, played the No.1 singles position for only the second time this season, defeating Louisiana Techis Saharai Uriarte 6-3, 6-3. In doubles play, the communication major teamed with Cristina Flores at the No. 3 doubles spot to win 8-0 over Techis Danielle Landry/Morgan Majors. She is the second Cougar to win POW honors. Freshman Miranda Foley won the award Jan. 28 after her debut in the No. 1 spot. As a team, the Cougars beat the Techsters 6-1 on Friday and lost to Louisiana State 7-0 on Monday. UH (2-3, 0-1 C-USA) travels to Alabama this weekend to face the Lady Crimson Tide on Saturday and conference foe Alabama-Birmingham on Sunday. Both matches are scheduled for noon.
