Eclectic music makes weekend adventure

by Bridget Brown
The Daily Cougar

If you feel like having a little adventure this weekend then go check out a local act you've never heard before. If going to the expensive Primus or Lucinda William concerts at Verizon Wireless Theater isn't your thing there's plenty of talent in Houston waiting to gain exposure.

Friday

Austin favorite Bob Schneider will play at the Engine Room, 1515 Pease St., with Ohno and Pilot Radio. Haste the Day, Bowels of Judas and Persephone will perform at Fitzgerald's, 2706 White Oak St.

Check out Pilots Brother Luck, Soviet Space and Wide Awake at SideCar Pub, 11202 Huffmeister Road, or if you'd rather get down to some blues Earl Gilliam will perform at The Big Easy, 5731 Kirby Drive.

Put your cowboy hat on for The Madisons and Bone Simple at Dan Electro's Guitar Bar, 1031 E. 24th St.

Fat Cat's, 4216 Washington Ave., has a myriad of artists -- Soilent Green, Sea of Thousand, Incisor, Mechanically Separated, El Salvador Birthday Bash and Machine Gun Romantics will play. Or stay on Washington Ave. and see Strike Anywhere and Fifth Hero at Walter's on Washington, across from Fat Cat's.

Saturday

Feel the good vibes of reggae artists DubTex, Friends of the Enemy and Earthraiders at Rhythm Room, 1815 Washington Ave., or relieve the school tension with hardcore acts Born From Pain, Internal Affairs, Will to Live and Pride Kills at The Warehouse, 1801 Washington Ave.

Helios, 411 Westheimer Road, will host the hip-hop and reggae Clamor Music Festival with Work, Freedom Sold and Free Radicals.

Rocker Lucinda Williams will perform with Bottle Rockets at Verizon Wireless Theater.

Sunday

There's not a lot going on except for Big Brown Truck, Dead End Kids and Warren's Mom at The Proletariat, 903 Richmond, and Brown Vs. Board, Leisure Class Heroes, Endeavor, In Theory and For The Time Being over at the Engine Room.
