Suburban
bar gives big beer bargains
Tucked away upstairs in
a Clear Lake shopping center filled with other bars, behind swaying palm
trees and rusty stair railings, you'll see the neon clover and the gray
metal door.
Honest
music wins in 'Last Place'
What do you get when you
cross a rocket scientist, a cheese head, four Cougars and a community service
project? The Last Place You Look ? well ? its album anyway.
Spiky
hair doesn't make an album punk
When British street punk
gained the most prominence in the early '80s, it wasn't a good thing ?
just bland music and lyrics that seemed to offer more style than substance
as epitomized by "legends" like Blitz and the Exploited.
'LOTR'
isn't all that terrible
Oscar night was a lonely
night for this film buff. As some of you might remember, I wrote an In
Focus column titled "Just Say No to The Lord of The Rings," (Nov. 3) in
which I proceeded to bash everything hobbit with phrases like "nerd fest"
and "nosebleed inducing."
California
Dios doesn't impress
On its website, Dios notes
that it hails from Hawthorne, California, the same city that gave the world
the Beach Boys and Black Flag. However, Dios' debut album shows no signs
of hits such as "Surfin' USA" or "California Girls."
