News Editor applications due on 25th Top positions are available for The Daily Cougar, 'Houstonian' Cougar News Staff Applications for editors in chief of The Daily Cougar and the Houstonian yearbook will be due in two weeks, Student Publications Director Richard Cigler said. The Student Publications Committee initially set March 22 as the deadline for applications for the Cougar's summer and fall editors in chief and the editor of the 2005 Houstonian during its meeting Thursday. Student Publications Director Richard Cigler changed the deadline to March 25 when he realized March 22 would be the first day of classes after Spring Break. Student Publications bylaws state that the applications must be received at least 10 business days before the election of the editors, set for April 8. Applications will be available through the due date from the Student Publications offices, 160 Communication Building. In other business, The Daily Cougar's student advertising manager, Mary Reding, said the advertising department achieved its $56,000 sales goal for February and is on the way to making a $50,000 March goal. "So far, our March goal is looking very good," Reding said. Houstonian Editor in Chief Ashley Grubbs said the 2003 yearbooks are available to be picked up in the Student Publications offices. "It's being received pretty well," Grubbs said of the book, which arrived several months after its target delivery date. Grubbs announced this year's Photo Week, during which students may have their pictures taken for the annual, will take place between March 30 and April 2 in the University Center Satellite's Allison Room. Grubbs said the hours would likely be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but Cigler said he's looking into offering extended hours one or two days. Matt Dulin, editor in chief of The Daily Cougar, said his staff has been doing a "bang-up job" despite openings remaining available for sports writers and copy editors. Dulin said the newspaper's office had been besieged by e-mail worms. Although they have not caused any problems, Dulin said some of the messages have been humorous. "I got a virus e-mail that informed me that I was a bad writer," Dulin said. "That wasn't a virus," SPC Chairman Keenan Singleton, a Cougar staff member, joked. The SPC will next meet for the editor elections April 8 in the UC Satellite's Allison Room. Send comments to dcnews@mail.uh.edu |
