Campus crime update

The following is a partial report of campus crime between March 4 and 14. All information is selected from the files of the UH Police Department. The information in italics shows when the event was reported to UHPD and the event's location. Information or questions regarding the cases below should be directed to UHPD by calling (713) 743-0600.

Criminal trespass: 2:30 p.m. March 4, Parking Lot 15D -- A student observed an adult visitor tampering with a parked vehicle. The visitor was issued a Harris County criminal trespass citation and released.

Driving while intoxicated: 4:57 a.m. March 5, 4500 block of Scott Street -- A visitor was arrested for driving while intoxicated and transported to Harris County Jail after he was stopped for running a red light. A passenger in the vehicle was also transported to the jail for an outstanding arrest warrant from Kansas.

Burglary: 6:23 p.m. March 5, 4100 block of Anita Avenue -- Complainant reported his parked, secured vehicle was burglarized and his UH parking permit was stolen. Occurred between 9 a.m. and 6:20 p.m.

Theft: 11:57 a.m. March 6, Parking Lot 9C -- Complainant reported an unknown person(s) stole the tailgate from his truck between 9 p.m. March 5 and 11:55 a.m. March 6.

Theft: 4:35 p.m. March 6, M.D. Anderson Memorial Library first floor -- A visitor at the library reported her unattended, unsecured purse was stolen from a computer work station between 4 and 4:30 p.m.

Possession of a controlled substance: 4:12 a.m. March 7, 4000 block North MacGregor Way -- A student was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and was transported to Harris County Jail after he was stopped for failure to maintain a single lane of travel.

Criminal mischief: 7:37 p.m. March 7, Law Hall second floor -- Complainants left for the weekend and returned to find that a small sign posted on their door had been set on fire. Occurred between 1 p.m. March 6 and 7:20 p.m. March 7.

Theft: 9:28 a.m. March 9, University Center Satellite -- Complainant reported an unknown person stole four money bags, containing money, from her unsecured office between 8 p.m. March 8 and 5 a.m. March 9.

Theft: 2:46 p.m. March 10, Parking Lot 12B -- Complainant reported his parked vehicle was stolen from Lot 12B between 10:15 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Possession of a prohibited weapon: 12:54 a.m. March 11, Parking Lot 4A -- A visitor was arrested for possession of a prohibited weapon and transported to Harris County Jail after being stopped for a traffic violation.

Theft: 10:51 a.m. March 12, University Hilton -- A visitor was observed taking fruit from the Hilton's employee cafeteria. The visitor was arrested, charged with theft and transported to the Harris County Jail.

Theft: 11:40 p.m. March 12, Parking Lot 15D -- A student reported his parked, secured vehicle was stolen from Lot 15D between 4:30 and 7 p.m.

Burglary: 10:35 a.m. March 13, Parking Lot 9C -- A visitor was arrested for attempting to steal a stereo from a parked, secured vehicle. The visitor was transported to Harris County Jail.

Theft: 3:51 p.m. March 13, Melcher Hall first floor -- Complainant reported an unknown person(s) stole her unsecured, unattended laptop computer from a bench between 3:20 and 4:15 p.m. March 12.

Racing on a highway: 12:35 a.m. March 14, 4900 block of Spur 5 -- A student and a visitor were arrested for racing on Spur 5 and were transported to Harris County Jail.

Attempted robbery: 7:45 p.m. March 14, Garrison Gymnasium parking lot -- Complainant reported an unknown person assaulted her in an attempt to steal her purse as she was leaving Garrison Gymnasium. Occurred at 6:45 p.m.
