OPINION

Stupidity saturates entertainment
For two seasons now, the MTV show The Newlyweds has earned tremendous success and high ratings by showing the intimate and everyday details of the life of Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson as newlyweds.

Consumerism eclipses civic duty
Even though a great deal of people are registered to vote, the percentage of Americans who actually vote in presidential elections has been declining for a number of years. Only about 50 percent of the eligible voters in the United States even go to the polls on Election Day.

Apathy destroys creativity
I don't care about anything. Well, I suppose that's not entirely true. I occasionally find myself getting mildly riled about some political issues, and I care about the various important people in my life, but basically, when it comes to me and my future, I just don't care.
