UH offense observes break Cougar Sports Staff While the rest of the students were away on Spring Break, the Cougar softball team was busy playing four games on the road. Unfortunately for the Cougars, their offense seemed to take a break with the rest of the students. The team lost three of four games in doubleheaders at Baylor and Texas-Arlington, but it managed to win its final game, giving Houston some momentum heading into Conference USA play. Houston dropped both games of a doubleheader in Waco on March 16, getting shutout 2-0 in Game 1 and falling 4-3 in Game 2.

Cougar
The Cougars had a chance early in the first contest when junior outfielder Kim Nesloney led off the game with a double and was bunted over to third, but Nesloney was stranded. Baylor scored two runs in the fourth inning and allowed only two Cougar hits after Nesloney's double. In the second game Nesloney reached base again to start the game, this time getting hit by a pitch. Then junior infielder Kristen Glowacz drove Nesloney in with a single, and freshman infielder Jamie Adams, who had reached on a bunt, advanced to third. Adams later scored on a single by senior catcher Arelis Ferreris, giving the Cougars a 2-0 lead after the top half of the first. Baylor took the lead with one run in the bottom half of the first and two in the second, but the Cougars tied the game at three in the sixth when a single by junior designated hitter Jennilee Skender drove in Glowacz. It remained tied until the bottom of the seventh when Bear catcher Danielle Arnold lined a double to score pinch runner Amber Daniel with the winning run. After leaving Waco, the Cougars had no time to rest as they traveled to Arlington for a doubleheader. In the first game, the Cougars fell short in a seventh-inning rally, allowing Baylor to escape, 3-2. UTA again scored in the first to take an early lead in Game 2, but the Cougars responded in the third. Glowacz knocked a double off the wall, scoring Nesloney and Adams and giving the Cougars a 2-1 lead. Houston took a 4-1 lead in the sixth, which was more than enough for freshman pitcher Carla Kennimer, who improved to 4-1 on the season with the 4-2 win. The win improves the Cougars to 24-11, and UH will now return to the Cougar Softball Complex for a three-game series against Southern Miss on Saturday and Sunday to begin C-USA play.
