OPINION

Progress just an illusion
There's a little story about a little society you hear about while studying culture. It goes a little something like this: There were egalitarian groups of people coexisting peacefully because they were the same. As technological advancement began, however, divided classes emerged. These societies, of course, relied on each other due to their differences and found unity in this balance.

Reasons behind terror not simple
Anti-terrorism guru Richard Clarke says Bush didn't take al-Qaida seriously. Lt. Col. Robert Patterson, who had the unbelievably cool job of carrying 'the football' containing secret codes the president needs in case of nuclear war, points the finger at Clinton for "[unleashing] global terror."

UH wears lack of spirit on sleeve
I remember when I graduated from high school; I had a choice of going to either the University of Texas or the University of Houston. I chose UH because I knew if I went to UT, I would party so much that I would get corrupted and fail my classes. I pondered a bit on whether I made the right decision.
