'Scooby-Doo'
on top of the heap
Once again, Jesus drops
a place in the box office charts, but this week it's because filmgoers
have found a tasty treat to replace the host -- a Scooby Snack. The vegetarian
snacks have sweetened theaters around the nation as Fred, Daphne, Velma,
Shaggy and that lovable pup named Scooby Doo run away from monsters onto
the big screen for the sequel to 2002's success, Scooby-Doo.
UH
alumnus lives his dream
Pavan Grover has done pretty
well for himself in the medical field. He is a surgeon specializing in
pain management, has debated Dr. Jack Kervorkian's lawyer on Larry King
Live and has received an award of recognition from the Clinton administration
for the work he has done in his practice. Even after all that, however,
Grover had yet to fulfill his real dream.
'Crown'
gives candid peek into culture
On Main Street, nestled
between Berry and Holman Streets, lies one of the city's most delightful
gems, The Ensemble Theatre. The late George Hawkins founded the magical
playhouse that has showcased an array of situations handled by blacks in
real life without losing the enchantment of theater.
Von
Bondies keep Detroit on the map
If a band from Detroit saves
rock 'n' roll, it won't be one that dresses like a candy cane. It's pretty
much true that the White Stripes started the garage-rock revival (if they
didn't, not many people were paying attention beforehand), and they also
brought some dignity back onto the radio -- in the meantime, unintentionally
giving a free ride for Jack and Meg parodies into the mainstream.
