UH professor wins national research award Cougar News Services An associate professor of chemistry at UH won the Arthur K. Doolittle Award in the Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering Division for his work in researching thin-film polymer formation. The award, established by the Union Carbide Corp., is given to the authors of an outstanding paper presented at each American Chemical Society national meeting. UH professor Rigoberto Advincula co-authored the winning paper with UH research assistant Mi-Kyoung Park, Stergios Pispas and Nikos Hadjichristidis of the University of Athens, Greece, and Jimmy W. Mays of the University of Tennessee. "This work is especially relevant to research into new materials based on polymers that have practical applications in adhesives, coatings and lubricants," Advincula said in a statement. Advincula's recently received a $2 million grant from the National Science Foundation, the University of Tennessee, the University of Utah and Clemson University to develop nanoscale "velcro" materials. The Doolittle award was presented Monday
during the ACS' 227th national meeting in Anaheim, Calif.
