Sports
Honors keep coming for Houston's Jones Cougar Sports Services For anyone who hasn't figured it out yet, Chandi Jones is good. So good that the UH women's basketball
senior guard was named the Women's Basketball Coaches Association NCAA
Division I Player of the Month for March. Jones averaged 26.6 points per
game on 51.6 percent shooting in five games in March.
Senior Chandi Jones is the only player in NCAA basketball history to score in double figures in every game of her collegiate career. Pin Lim/The Daily Cougar Jones beat out 16 other finalists for the award, including Duke's Iciss Tillis and Stanford's Nicole Powell. Duke's Alana Beard, Kansas State's Nicole Ohlde and Arizona's Shawntinice Polk won the award for December, January and February of this year. Jones closed her storied college career with Houston's first-ever conference championship and the program's first ever win in the NCAA tournament, a 62-47 win over Wisconsin-Green Bay. Jones is the all-time leading scorer in Conference USA history with 2,684 points and scored 10 or more points in all 114 games of her collegiate career, an NCAA record. She became the first player in Houston history to be named a Kodak All-American, making the second team this season. She became the first player to be named Conference USA Player of the Year three times. For her career, Jones averaged 23.6 points and 6.25 rebounds per game. Jones is a finalist for the Wade Trophy, the Kodak/WBCA All-America Team and the Wooden Award. Send comments to dcsports@mail.uh.edu |
