Singles bar hangs a little low for Coogs vs. Tulsa Coogs sweep doubles play but Tulsa wins 5-2 in singles play Cougar Sports Services UH has relied on solid doubles play to carry it to victory, but even a sweep by the one-set wonders on the doubles side couldn't put the Cougars over the hump on "humpday." The Cougar tennis squad, ranked this week at No.
75 in the nation lost to No. 51 Tulsa by a score of 5-2 at the Michael
D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa. The loss brings the Cougars to a two-match
losing streak after having a successful previous week against nationally-ranked
teams.
TU's Santie Delport and Kindsay Grimes lost to sophomore Kami Miller and sophomore Yolandi Terblanche, 8-4. Junior Diana Martin and senior Karine Urbin defeated Zoe Buhagiar and Lisette Pereira 8-5. The only singles match won by Houston came from Terblanche defeating Timberly Greenly, 6-1, 6-2. Foley's effort against No. 75 Muscoline fell short, 6-3, 6-1. The intense Dimovska lost to No. 86 Somers, 6-1, 6-0. TU's Donata Majuaskaite defeated Martin, 6-0, 6-0. Pereira overcame her match with Urbin, 6-2, 6-1. The singles match ending with Delport defeating Miller, 6-7, 7-6, 10-4. The Cougars' loss puts them at an 8-9 overall record this season. They travel to New Mexico State on Saturday to face the Aggies then head to Texas-El Paso on Sunday to meet the Miners. UH will not play on its home court until April 13, when the Cougars battle Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 2 p.m. at the John E. Hoff Varsity Tennis Courts. Send comments to dcsports@mail.uh.edu |
