Mowbray paces Cougars to 14th place in Laredo UH golf team prepares clubs for Conference USA play Cougar Sports Services UH sophomore Zach Mowbray, the Cougars' leader in scoring average and tournament finishes, once again led the Cougars this weekend. The co-captain shot an even par 72 in the final round of the Border Olympics at the Laredo Country Club in Laredo, finishing the tournament with a four-under 212 to place seventh at the competition. It was the highest 54-hole total in Mowbray's career. Houston, meanwhile, didn't fare quite as well, finishing 14th out of a total of 16 teams at the Border Olympics. The field, which included some of the top teams in the country, included Texas, Texas A&M (which hosted the event), Brigham Young, Michigan State and San Diego State. Mowbray shot a 69 in the second half a 36-hole day Friday, tying his previous best score for 18 holes. Colorado State's Martin Laird shot a 1-under-par 71 in the final round to win medallist honors with a 9-under-par 207 for 54 holes. Southern Methodist's Jerad Harklau and Baylor's Ryan Baca tied for second with a total of 208. Houston will get a breather until the season heats up for the Cougars, as the Conference USA Championships take place April 19-21 in Dade City, Fla. Send comments to dcsports@mail.uh.edu |
