Easter is ripe for Houston concerts

By Bridget Brown
The Daily Cougar

It's Easter. You know what that means -- you'd better be on your best behavior, and play nice with the family. On second thought, doesn't the Bible say that Jesus died for your sins? So why not take advantage of it -- be bad. Bite the heads off your little sister's chocolate bunnies, don't stick around to do the dishes and hit up Houston's nightspots for a little holiday havoc.

Friday

Get over to the Continental Club, 3700 Main St., for Billy Joe Shaver and Last Train Home -- the best home-grown roots that Houston has to offer. Or flashback to the 1970s with Chaka Khan at Houston City Live, 800 Northwest Mall.

Death is the theme at the almost always indie Fat Cat's, 4216 Washington Ave., which will play host to Everytime I Die, As I Lay Dying, Black Dahlia Murder and Scarlet Friday.

Grab a cold one and check out some blues with Hilary Sloan & Aunt Ermas Fillin' Station at West Alabama Ice House, 1919 W. Alabama St.

Saturday

Flametrick Subs and Zombilly will rock the small Walter's on Washington, 4215 Washington Ave., and right down the road at Fat Cat's, Injected, Upside and the

Feds will play.

If you're singing the in-laws blues, then you might want to blow off some steam with hometown favorite The Mighty Orq Blues Band at The Shakespeare Pub, 14129 Memorial Drive. Or take in the minty smell of the outdoors at Last Concert Cafe, 1403 Nance St., with Moses Guest and Drop Trio.

Pong and Les Saucy Pants will play at Rudyard's, 2010 Waugh St., and Setback, Jarm, Infinity's Twin and Absolute Pistol will be over at the Engine Room.

Chances are you were too young to see the Ramones, but at Fitzgerald's, 2706 White Oak Drive, The Hates will be doing their best impression at the You Ain't Punk Fest, also featuring Livia Dreams as Joan Jett, Crash Hall Surprise as Face to Face and Ballistics as the Beastie Boys.

Sunday

The Europeans will face off across town with The Darkness and the Wildhearts at Verizon Wireless Theater, 520 Texas Ave., and Rod Stewart at the Toyota Center, 1510 Polk St. It's a no-brainer folks -- unless you're taking your mom, it's pretty obvious where you should be.
