Coogs 'Bama bound to face UAB

UH still has work to do in C-USA play; Blazers trying to stay alive for postseason

Cougar Sports Services

As dominant as the Cougars have been this season, they still have some work to do in Conference USA.

UH is 24-16 overall this season, but the Cougars have only a 4-5 record against C-USA so far, putting them in fifth place. The top six teams qualify for the C-USA Tournament in May.

Manuel Rearte/The Daily Cougar
Junior outfielder Kim Nesloney is ranked second on the Cougars in both batting average (.308) and runs scored (40).

Though the team is in little danger of finishing out of the top five, this weekend will be important for the Cougars to establish some momentum in C-USA for the stretch run of the season.

Houston will visit Birmingham for a three-game series against Alabama-Birmingham. Games 1 and 2 will make up a doubleheader Friday, with the first game beginning at 6 p.m. at George Wade Field. The teams finish up with Game 3 at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Cougars are coming off a series against perennial powerhouse DePaul, who won the series 2-1.

UAB, meanwhile, has lost five consecutive games, all to C-USA opponents. UAB has nearly the reverse record of Houston at 16-23, and the Blazers are only 3-9 in C-USA this season.

The Cougars return home for a three-game series next weekend against Louisville, beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cougar Softball Complex.
