Pharmacy student wins counseling competition Cougar News Services UH pharmacy student Michelle Edwards took first place in the student patient counseling competition at the American Pharmacists Association national convention, beating representatives from 87 pharmacy schools across the country. Contestants were given five minutes to mentally prepare for a scenario in which they had to counsel a patient on an assigned medication. Each patient had a communication barrier ranging from being in a hurry to having gotten confusing information from the Internet. "Michelle's success is a positive reflection of her talents and the superb training that she has received from our faculty," College of Pharmacy Dean Sunny E. Ohia said in a release. Edwards, who placed in the top 10 in the counseling competition last year, will receive $1,000, a plaque and the chance to judge the 2005 Patient Counseling Competition in Orlando, Fla. She will also be honored May 14 at the College of Pharmacy's graduation banquet. "I was pleased to have made the top 10 again and
overwhelmed with joy at finishing in first place," Edwards said in a release.
