Pro
athletes give names a bad name
Ever wonder why you never hit .400
like Ted Williams, or weren't a first-round draft pick in the NFL? Look
no further than the sir that gave you your surname -- your father. Success
in sports, especially football, has little to do with genes or the NFL
Director of Operations, Gene Washington, and everything to do with your
last name.
UH hopes
to repeat history
Folsom Field might as well be the
Cougars' home stadium. After all, no team has dominated Texas A&M in
College Station quite like Houston has. The Cougars have four consecutive
victories against the Aggies in College Station, including two victories
(both 7-6 scores) in one day last year to take a regional victory and advance
to the Super Regional against Rice. Houston was a decided underdog against
the top-seeded Aggies.
UH looks
to build 'mo' for C-USA meet
Going into the home stretch of their
season, the Cougars are confident they have what it takes to be competitive
with the top teams in the country. Unfortunately for Houston, having what
it takes and doing what it takes haven't always been in harmony.
Walker joins
Coogs as new assistant coach
Former Cougar player and assistant
coach Tom Walker hopped aboard Houston's men's basketball program Monday,
becoming the first hire for new UH head coach Tom Penders. Penders hired
Walker as an assistant coach in a move that should be the first of a series
of staff decisions by the former Longhorn, who accepted the top job in
March.
