Walker joins Coogs as new assistant coach Cougar Sports Services Former Cougar player and assistant coach Tom Walker hopped aboard Houston's men's basketball program Monday, becoming the first hire for new UH head coach Tom Penders. Penders hired Walker as an assistant coach in a move that should be the first of a series of staff decisions by the former Longhorn, who accepted the top job in March. The hiring marks Walker's third tour of duty as an assistant coach at UH. Walker worked under legendary coach Guy V. Lewis from 1980-86. He also served former head coach Clyde Drexler for both of Drexler's seasons. Walker played forward for the Cougars during his four-year career, including two seasons in Houston's starting lineup. (1977-78, 1978-79). In between his stints with the Cougars, Walker had successful runs with both South Florida Community College and Midland Junior College. Send comments to dcsports@mail.uh.edu |
