UH cheer team wins third title Cougar News Services The UH cheerleaders won first place in the Division I-A Small Coed 1 finals at the National Cheerleading Association championship earlier this month -- the second consecutive title for the squad and the third in four years. Since the category was introduced, the cheer team has taken first place three times: in 2001, 2003 and 2004. The squad was led by captain Wendy Walker and co-captains Aesha Sanford and Matt Hill. "Each national victory we have helps us elevate the bar for the level of athletes UH gains and retains," the squad's coach, Sean Garland, said in a release. The group beat squads from 15 other schools to take the title. UH's large coed team took second place in the Cheer
Division I-A class. The competition will be televised later this month
on CBS and the Fox Sports Network.
