Penders' Cougars land another recruit

By Matthew Cooper
The Daily Cougar

The UH men's basketball team welcomes its newest member to the roster this fall.

Sergio de Randamie, a center, is the third recruit from Midland College signed by UH head coach Tom Penders.

"We are extremely excited to have signed Sergio," Penders said through UH's Office of Sports Information. "He is a strong, athletic and mature player who likes to play the center position."

Randamie stands at 6-foot-7, weighs 240 pounds and averaged 3.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game for Midland. He started in 34 of the 35 games in which he played, helping lead the Chaparrals to a 30-7 overall record for the season.

He was awarded "Most Improved Player" during his freshman year at Midland and honorable mention All-Western Junior College Athletic Conference selection after averaging 6.9 points and 6.2 rebounds.

Randamie is the fifth junior college player to sign with UH. He joins former Chaparrals Englebert Cherrington and Brian Latham, as well as Rodney Hannah of Yuba College and Chris Lawson of Southwest Los Angles Junior College.

"By signing these five players, we have done everything we set out to do with this recruiting class," Penders said. "That is highly unusual considering this is our first year."
