Viewers should just say 'no' to bad TV

'Simple Life' glorifies a lack of intelligence

Rhodes' Rage

It is hard to believe that many peopleis idea of entertainment would be watching two spoiled rich girls act like idiots in an unfamiliar setting, but sure enough, this concept is just what the viewers ordered. And Fox will give them their second helping.

The Simple Life 2 premieres Wednesday and is expected to receive even higher ratings then the first season of the series.

Which leaves me wondering - why?

Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie represent the nations worst and dimmest in The Simple Life 2, a reality series that puts the two social elites in a road romp across the country.

Why is this show so popular? And why would anyone want to watch a show that is basically glorifying the total lack of respect the showis two personalities, affluent socialites Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, have for those they encounter during the program.

For those who have never seen The Simple Life -- you are better off never knowing this show existed (stop reading now). But for those who have seen the show or are regular viewers I urge you to stop and think about what you are watching before it is too late.

In the second season the two brainless brats will drive a pink pick-up truck across the United States in order to bring their unabashed ignorance from sea to shining sea with all of America tuning in weekly to see their shenanigans unfold.

What a simple life the viewing public lead and are leading us into. And whatis next?

Maybe there could be a show where girls who feel they are unattractive are taken away to plastic surgery camp where confidence is only a 12 hour surgery and a strict diet away. But hopefully the creator will make sure the girls get some "self-esteem counseling" in order to prove that changing one looks is not the sole solution to fixing oneis problems.

But how hard that will be to believe when the young swan finally meets with the mirror and finds itis hard to be sad now that she is truly beautiful.

Or better yet, how about a series where singers are chosen based on their lack of talent to prove that people will buy anything including albums by bands that were formed because of their lack of talent?

Again for those who donit know, the above are real shows and the reason it might be too late.

People say that television makes you stupid, but I would argue that bad television programming is what makes you stupid.

We the viewers must take a stand now and put some thought into our program choices or our future, much like Paris and Nicole, will not be very bright.
